What operating system are you using? 32 or 64bit? Version of Snes9x? Is the text at the bottom of the window white when you load the game?
These suggestions are usually the solution to your issue!

Well, it CAN depend on what RPG you're playing, if you play SMRPG, you're gonna need good timing to get anything right if the speed is all wacko...

Chrono Trigger certainly took full advantage of the Snes' SPC700/S-SMP, that's for sure. With talents like Yasunori Mitsuda, Noriko Matsueda and Nobuo Uematsu, it was and still is one heck of a soundtrack!
Lisa: "I hope you all know you're sponsoring a murderous pirate!"
Sponsor: "A pirate!!? Well, that's hardly the image we need for Long John Silvers!"

I voted for Final Fantasy and I will tell you why.
The key word here is 'emulated'. Final Fantasy games benefit the most from having a fast-forward key.
Chrono Trigger has some lengthy 'cutscenes', but the dead time is kept to a minimum and the battles are pretty snappy and rarely reduce to "hold A until they're all dead."
Final Fantasy, on the other hand, has random encounters. And sometimes they're just tedious. At times like that, having a fast-forward button cuts the tedium down to a minimum.
The only time I want to fast-forward SMRPG is after winning a battle... and I have an actual SNES cartridge. I'd rather play it on the actual system.
