Is your wii remote WiiMote+ or regular WiiMote?
How good are the batteries?
Are there any Wii Remote syncing apps (either on the lines of sixaxis for the PS3 controllers on Android or Wiimote Controller for Android) you can use in the interim? do other bluetooth devices function correctly?
