Hello! :)
From my SNES ROM collection, there are 2 ROMs that unfortunately don't work with Snes9x... :(
I'm using the latest version snes9x-1.52-win32.fix4.
When I load either one of these ROMs, there's only a black screen and nothing happens...
I've uploaded them here: -link removed; linking to ROMs is against the rules-
And here's the info... :P

Yoshi's Island works perfectly, as I've used it many times on that version.
SnesPurify will make the ROM clean, or in other words, make it so it doesn't have any weird headers in it, hopefully making it usable - http://www.filefactory.com/file/b54ch75 ... purify.rar

Primal Rage is a known bug, it will be fixed in the next version.
Yoshi's Island should have no problems, you probably have a bad rom.

I've downloaded the latest snespurify v05 from the official website and it renamed the file to .sfc but it still doesn't load in Snes9x! :(
Can you please tell me other good rom-fixing tools?
Thanks!

Have you checked to see if the ROM image is interleaved? If it is, then it won't work.

Just as a heads-up, don't link to ROMs (even if they are bad and you want them verified). Link removed. Posting the ROM info and/or a CRC32 is more than enough.

and to expand on badinsults's post, the ROM info (the text that comes up when you first load a ROM) should be white for both games. Yellow may run (though it shouldn't be yellow; the checksum seems good on both games), but any other color won't. Cyan, orange, and green mean the ROM is interleaved in some way. Red means the ROM was TOTALLY hacked and won't run at all.

Also, you can try NSRT to fix the ROM. the link is in my sig.

A reminder, what does interleaving do exactly?

IIRC it arranges the ROM parts in a format the copier can understand.

Hi

Just registered so i can reply to this thread. I been having a problem with Yoshi's Island to run on my emulator for my DS. My problem seems to be consistent with the OP. I get this black screen and I figure the rom is bad. I been searching for a legit copy but to no avail. I even tried that NSRT but I have some confusion on how it works.

Can you please help me as the whole reason I bothered to run an emulator was to play Yoshi's Island!!

And all other games work btw. Just not yoshi :(

first off, I'm surprised a lowly DS can run Yoshi's Island, as that's a superfx game (see: need a big badass beefy CPU for it; the DS IIRC isn't that).

next, there is an NSRT frontend you can download and install -- search Google for it.

It depends on how you deal with the chip. The DS's emulator may be using the ARM7 to emulate most of the SNES (as if it were a GBA, which can do most SNES games) while the ARM9 emulates the SuperFX chip. typically it's having to emulate both at once that winds up being a CPU hog; some intelligent use of both processors can compensate for a lot.
