SNES9X won't load my saves

I'm playing a game, and It wasn't loading the saves(file not in snes9x format), so I tried to load different saves and save 3 worked. I tried again, but loaded save 1 which was near the beginning of the game. I tried looking online, but nothing was able to help. my snes9x folder didn't have a saves folder for some reason, and I can't find a way to fix it.

more info is necessary for anyone to try and help.
- what platform are you using - Windows, Linux, MacOS?
- are you talking about battery save files, or savestates?
- where did you get these files - did you create them locally and now they won't load, or did you download them from elsewhere?
- under Emulation -> Settings, what is shown for the Saves and SRAM directories?
