Map multiple buttons to same function?

Sorry if this has been asked before. I would really like to be able to use both the stick and dpad both. To have both of them mapped to the SNES dpad control at once. This is because I usually prefer the stick unless in a menu, in which case I'll reach over and use the DPAD.
I think this is achievable with various 3rd-party keymapping software, but I was wondering if I'm missing some way this can be done directly in SNES9x. If not, would it ever be added?
