"Reduce Input Lag"

Post by lasagne »

Within Display Settings, what does checking "Reduce Input Lag" specifically do and why is it unchecked by defult?

As a second question- is it possible at present to pause the Recent Games list? If no, I hope that this will be implemented. I know how to delete the recent games individually from snes9x.conf but yeah.

I would also like to know what "Reduce Input Lag" does. Does anybody know?

A rough description: it forces snes9x to wait until the current image has actually been drawn to the screen, so that the time it polls your controller presses is closer to what you actually see on screen than without it.

Its used to reduce that lag from controller to the game, like this:
normal - you tap the button, 1,2,3... frames passes then your character in the game responds.
reduced input lag - you tap the button, ...4, the emulator subtracts the number you configured, that number in frames.

so, you'll loose frames, but will not feel that responsive lag
have seen this on retro box emulators...
