please help - imput config. problems

my imput configuration (?) for my snes9x is sort of mirroring left and right; so if i press left on the keys the character goes right and vise versa. up and downs are working just fine and i've tried reseting the game, closing and opening the window, restarting my pc, and it seems to be only effecting my earthbound rom. i don't know if it's the game or not but i have looked to see and it doesn't seem the case
