Lucent.. Winmodem?

You might want to give Linspire or Freespire a try. This'll work with Lucent winmodems (or at least Linspire 4.9.x did anyway.)

But in general, almost any Linux distro will not work with winmodems. You're better off trying to find a hardware based modem, or getting broadband.

Soon to be some Linux distro because my Windows xp keeps on messing up. Now is Fedora Core 8. Side note I was messing up my computer back then, now the updates for Windows Xp killed my keyboard that i game with my Windows Computer. Also Fedora is on here also. Also side note. It was an ATI hot key poller. I disabled that an I was able to get the keyboard working again.

you do realize you can always download the ubuntu CD and use it as a Live CD, assuming you don't use the installer?

yes, I was.

EDIT: Obtaining virtual machine software, such as microsoft's virtual PC 2004SP1 or vmware server (whatever the latest release is for windows) is fine too, just download the ubuntu CD and run it in vmware or MSVPC. install it in vmware or MSVPC if you wish.

dude

you can download and install either vmware server or microsoft's virtual PC (actually 2007 would be the good choice since you're just using linux, heh) and run the ubuntu ISO in it

I run Windows XP Home Edition. It has that SP2 thing and everything. I sort of want to change to Linux, but I don't know how. It's probably something I will never get to do.

Wow lovely I am here now to correct this crap again yay. But really I have fixed the keyboard problem and I tried to install Fedora Core 9 on here but there is no video on start up. I think it is the video drivers but whatever. I would like to go and get rid of it and just keep xp on here. But I am afraifd if i erase my fedora install using a partition manager I will lose my xp install. But whatever I am dealing with it though.

Above this line is old news.

The drivers did not support my X1950GT so that was the reason for no video. So I just reinstalled Windows Xp with a good config so it runs better than when I pos4ted earlier comments. Better understanding of the OS does alot for performance. And I can actually remember when I had the problems interesting how long it has been.

I still stick with Windows 98 SE on my home computer. No reason to upgrade.

Soon you'll need to as a lot of apps are no longer supporting Win98.

If you want, I can send a copy of XP. ;) Pretty simple to upgrade too. :)

I have been trying to get XP, but something else that worries me...when reformatting the HD and installing it, I'd be forced to connect to the Internet to verify I have a legit copy, right? I don't have an Internet connection! How can I get around this if I do ever get a hold of XP?

Also, on looking at the poll results, this brings up another question...
How many of you have dual-booting computers?
