Snes9x GX randomly freezes on save/load snapshot

I use the snapshot feature a lot. Sometimes, it will randomly freeze if I save or load, sometimes waiting a few seconds after I start playing again. I can't seem to figure out why, but it happens a lot, and forces me to restart the Wii by the power button since the remote doesn't respond.
Is this common, or am I doing something wrong?
