Jap and US Roms Sound / Speed Issues

Help! I am in the Uk, and running my native European roms works perfectly, but for some unknown reason, all US and JAP roms now decide to run with very broken sound, almost like something is stuck on European 50hz settings or something.
This is the first time I have come across this, and have been using snes 9x on various diff computers over the years. Is it something simple I am missing? Would it be a bios file issue? any help would be greatly appreciated.
