Diagonal Joystick Input Not Working Properly

Ok...
When I use SNES9x with my xbox one controller, the diagonal joystick inputs seem to work OK.
However, when I use my wavebird controller (hooked up to a mayflash pc adapter), the diagonal joystick inputs don't seem to work at all.
Thinking it was an issue with the controller, I fired up ZSNES. The diagonal inputs worked just fine and I was shooting hadukens with no problem using either controller.
There seems to be something wrong with the way SNES9X handles diagonal joystick input. If anyone has experienced these issues before and knows what I'm doing wrong, please let me know!
