"Save data in..." option keeps resetting itself

Using Snes9x 1.5.3 (113) on OS X 10.11.3 (15D21)...
I have to keep going into preferences —> File —> Save data in: and changing it to "ROM folder." When I look at the preferences again, it's reset back to "Application Support folder."
I'm not sure what action is resetting it, exactly, but it seems to happen very frequently.
Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem or if there might be a solution (maybe I'm doing something wrong?).
