snes9x won't launch?

I downloaded snes9x v. 1.52 this past summer and it was working wonderfully, but I tried launching it this week and it will not launch at all. It was working no problem up until this week. I don't get any error messages. It just simply won't launch. I'm not sure what to do!
I'd greatly appreciate if anyone has any advice on how to fix this.

What error is it specifically giving you?

It simply will not launch. I'll click the icon and nothing will happen, and I won't even receive an error message. The only solution I have found thus far is to delete and reinstall. However, I'm not sure it will prevent it from happening again in the future, and I don't want to lose my save files again by having to repeat the process.
I'm not sure what to make of this, but if you have any idea I'd appreciate the help!

fyi - if you lost your saves, it's because you deleted them. they're not integral to snes9x itself.
that being said, you can always just try deleting snes9x.conf if something gets hopelessly broken.
