Cannot hold down Y button to run. Recognized as single click

I have setup a iBuffalo Classic USB Gamepad

on my windows 7 machine.

The problem is in Donkey Kong. When I hold down the Y button, he does a roll, but not the run. I think it's seeing the button as a single press.
