problem with R button in game Lufia II

Hi,
in the game Lufia II the R button has 2 functions. 1 is that if you press and hold the R button you can turn on the spot. This works with no problem. But with the R button you can also select more or all enemies in a fight. And this doesn't work.
Does any1 have an idea how i can fix this?
