Slowdown in Secret of Mana and Seiken Densetsu 3

When I go to display settings and set the Hi-Res option to "hq4x" I get slowdown on the file select screen and menu (Secret of Mana) and I have the same problem when a text box appears or if I access the menu in Seiken Densetsu 3, is there any way to have the Hi-Res filter set to hq4x and not have this issue?

Unfortunately there really isn't in the Emulator settings. I have a moderately high end computer and it sometimes does that. Although, if your computer has Speed Stepping turned on at the BIOS...that might be one of the causes, turning it off makes the CPU run at its full designated clock speed. Also, could be that your GPU's driver is settings the 2D clock speed to 50Mhz when it should be set to at least 120MHz...other than that I don't know.
