Super Scope doesn't work on OSX 10.9.1

using Snes9X v1.53 build #113. It selects the super scope fine, but when I go to use the fire button or cursor, it does nothing. I'm using the standard wireless mouse that came with the computer. Please help.
Additionally I'm not sure if there was a newer release build for OSX since 113..
