Experiencing freezing issues when saving and loading save states on Wii

Hi all. I have the latest version of Snes9x GX for Wii, and sometimes, when I go to save or load a state, the entire console will freeze. I've also had random freezes during actual gameplay, but that is rare.

If there's any additional info I have to provide, please let me know!

I'm sorry, I don't know how to edit posts: I figure it's worth noting I'm using a USB stick. Would switching to an SD solve my issues?
