snes9x hangs and crashes on launch

Im not even sure whats going on here, but im running windows 10 creators update which has been a nightmare for games. The game crashes on launch with a d3d error:

i have reinstalled all directx. thats not the issue im not sure what it is. it may be win10. it should be noted that i sually launch the game through launchbox. That being said, i cant launch a single game thrpugh launch box or clicking on snes9x directly. It crashes at LAUNCH. Honestly i dont know what is causing this. I hope that someone here can help me figure out what the problem is. Thanks so much in advance.

You could try editing snes9x.conf and switching to opengl.

PLUS.. your using an outdated version! ;p

the most current version is v1.5.4.1 !! lol ;p

so here is the link to known download hosting,

The one you want is of course:
"snes9x-1.54.1-win32-x64.zip Download Snes9x 1.54.1 Windows Version (64-bit) "

That leaves finding out why its crashing..
To that end I TURN to one of my favorite programs I like:
Dependency Walker
Dependency Walker is a free utility that scans any 32-bit or 64-bit Windows module (exe, dll, ocx, sys, etc.) and builds a hierarchical tree diagram of all dependent modules. For each module found, it lists all the functions that are exported by that module, and which of those functions are actually being called by other modules. Another view displays the minimum set of required files, along with detailed information about each file including a full path to the file, base address, version numbers, machine type, debug information, and more.
ie. you can use it to find exactly what function code is missing or failing to execute...

so yeah... there is of course a 32bit as well as 64bit version of Dependency Walker so.. u probably want the x64 one..

thanks for the help guys, its odd, but 1.54 worked just fine even if i have a x64 system - its odd but im pretty sure its MS fault, they somehow had it so even UMS and MSI AB were somehow interfering with each other as well as NGE shadowplay no longer working but thanks so much of the help. btw are cheats always greyed out?

um aren't you supposed to be using v1.54.1 instead of 1.54? there was a .1 release shortly after 1.54 came out. and no cheats are not always grayed out (unless you have the disable all cheats option checked). just create/re-create the cheats in the new snes9x version.

and install the latest cumulative update for win10 creators update (I have KB4022716 on my friend's Win10 Pro v1703 computer and snes9x 1.54.1 runs fine whether using either Direct3D or OpenGL).
