Re: Stutter after using Turbo hotkey (OpenGL, Windows 10 v18

Ok, I just changed the regular fullscreen mode (Emulate Fullscreen option turned off ) to use the flags that should get the nvidia driver to recognize the window and skip the compositor. Try this with the regular vsync option without the DWMSync option. Use this build: https://ci.appveyor.com/projec...

Re: Stutter after using Turbo hotkey (OpenGL, Windows 10 v18

I've added a hidden DWMSync option in the config file to replace the DWMTweaks option. To enable, set this to TRUE in snes9x.conf like you did DWMTweaks. You can get a build from here: https://ci.appveyor.com/project/snes9x/snes9x/builds/22815750/job/vbvayur6a513wr62/artifacts This will wait on the ...

Re: Various troubles with SNES9X and Sierra

The cheat format changed in 1.56. Loading a game in a version older than that will corrupt any cheat files for that game that might have been created in a newer version. A corrupt cheat file may also cause freezes. If you simply must use an older version, you have to delete your .cht files. Honestly...

I think if I add an option to run DWMFlush after every frame it'll decouple the OpenGL vsync from the compositor. I'll work on this and get a test build for you to try.

Re: BS Kirby no Omochabako - Pinball

I'm not familiar with the way libretro deals with BS files. If it were the same as Snes9x it would load perfectly fine. I'll have to look into it.

Re: Various troubles with SNES9X and Sierra

Is there anything I can do? Quit switching back and forth between versions. When you go back to an old version it doesn't know about the new cheat format and tries to load it in binary form, and as a result it loads garbage. Then, because the old version knows how to format its own cheat file, when...

The first place to get the downloads is the github releases page. That should be first on the list.

Re: Stutter after using Turbo hotkey (OpenGL, Windows 10 v18

If you have the 1.59.2 release, open up your snes9x.conf file and look for a line called “DWMTweaks”. Change this from false to true. This toggles a setting that is supposed to improve frame pacing.

Re: Stutter after using Turbo hotkey (OpenGL, Windows 10 v18

D3D switches to fullscreen mode when the emulate fullscreen checkbox is not set. OGL creates a topmost window that spans the whole screen (and changes the display resolution before that) - I don't know of any other way to switch to exclusive fullscreen with opengl. There isn’t any other way to do...

Re: New to Snes9x, just a few questions

4000MB is plenty, but also probably pushing the address space limit. Lower that to 1000 at the most. You have to reload the game to make this setting change, which is why it’s only doing a few seconds like before. If you need more time, increase the number of frames between snapshots. The emulator...

Re: BS Kirby no Omochabako - Pinball

If the Windows version works, then you’re probably using an old libretro core. The libretro core based on the newer versions should behave identically to the Windows version.

Snes9x EX is based on an old version and doesn’t have many fixes that we have made in the last decade.

Re: Stutter after using Turbo hotkey (OpenGL, Windows 10 v18

Probably because of the compositor/DWM. We don’t have an actual fullscreen exclusive mode. Emulate fullscreen only doesn’t change the screen resolution. OpenGL behavior is very driver-specific. The nvidia driver doesn’t detect a screen-covering window and switch to page flipping, while the Int...

Re: Snes9x Idea: Disable Background Input for hotkeys.

I think making that option more specific would just open up more feature creep. You say “hotkeys”, but which keys are those, exactly? Someone will say “why not let us configure which keys.” Then you have to do a complex UI, and that adds new bugs and edge cases and makes things worse overall.

Re: Audio crackling in earthbound

The audio clips sound the same to me, as well. That’s not to say there’s no crackling in the Windows port. I’ve been refactoring the audio code lately, and I’m trying to clean up what I’ve personally experienced. You might try RetroArch with the Snes9x core or bsnes core and see if you exp...

Re: Background input problems

This depends on the joystick driver. If it’s programmed as a “global” driver, background input will work. If it’s not, it only sends events to the focused application. Some controllers have separate drivers for directinput and xinput. You’ll have to try them each to see if they have the de...

Re: A few questions about settings, one about input lag

Higan doesn’t use vsync, so that’s your input lag. You can turn it off in Snes9x, but it’s the default to avoid tearing. Higan darkens colors by default because it assumes you’re using a crappy TN LCD. Snes9x outputs it as-is. Visual accuracy is subjective. If you want the sharpest possible,...

This was fixed long ago with the switch to SDL 2. 1.55 is not the latest version.

Re: Save stats compatibility between Windows and OS X

The OS X port is a little weird with its .frz extension. I think the intention was to allow a file type association with Snes9x. We could get rid of that to bring it in line with the other ports. You’d just lose the icons for save state files. Something you could try is just keeping the actual fil...
