Re: Snes9x 1.53

I know this is off topic, but how is Snes9x 1.54 coming along and what new features will it have?

Re: Strange framerate/sound issue?

Try different buffer length values, 16, 32, 48, 64, etc all the way up to 210ms. I use 112ms and it stops all the crackling on my end, so try each value if you want.

Re: SNES9x v7 Won't Open

1.43 is extremely outdated/deprecated, please use the newer 1.53.

Turning off Sound Sync will make it sound as bad as Zsnes 1.51. I don't need to disable it either.

Because they haven't updated. Get 1.53 from here instead.

Perhaps ATI is to blame... Visual Pinball 9 runs like it's on a 486 for me, and I've read that ATI's drivers are to blame there. I've hated their drivers ever since I had a Rage Pro in 1998. I swear I'm never buying another ATI card again, even if it has nothing to do with this particular problem. ...

If someone's sound card can't handle Snes and/or Gaussian interpolation, then there's something terribly wrong, as I doubt Nintendo SMP/SPC700 emulation output is that demanding. Technically, my sound card is "crap" compared to most others out there since it's over four years old and integ...

I've always wondered why people want to turn off interpolation.

Try the integrated sound card (it has one built in), and if the crackling goes away, you know what the problem was. You should be able to switch on the integrated audio in the BIOS.

Won't that make it sound as bad as Zsnes?

No, due to the massive code changes (and more accurate sound emulation added to the emulator) to Snes9x, older savestates are not cross-compatible, but, if you load the game you want to continue from, load the game in the old version, create an in-game save (like at an Inn, save point, etc), then cr...

It might have to due with the number of sprites per scanline (or something to that effect), as the Snes it limited to how much it could produce on screen at a time, though I'll definitely need to have someone back me up on that (an expert on Snes hardware/emulation). Like I said earlier, Square used...

This will make ROMs clean and changed them to SFC format http://byuu.org/files/snespurify_v10.7z But go ahead and try other Square games, as they should sound like the real deal. The prime example of SPC700 emulation is games that use streaming audio; Earthworm Jim will not play correctly on Zsnes o...

Between Snes9x 1.51 and 1.52 is when there was a major sound core overhaul, or when Blaarg's super-accurate SPC700 emulator core was integrated into the program code. Many games that sounded horrible on Snes9x 1.51 have been corrected in 1.52 and on, like Super Mario World (the spin jump sounds, ent...

I just listened to it, and I realized something very weird, it sounds the same on mine as well! WTF? Perhaps I'll do some comparing with Zsnes because, if Zsnes does anything right, it tells me how sound effects are NOT supposed to sound like. Too bad I didn't pick this game up when I lived in Japan...

Weird, very weird  While I know why Zsnes sounds funky, I honestly don't know why Snes9x 1.53 does. Have you tried 1.52, right after Bearoso (one of the guys who maintains Snes9x) implemented Blaarg's SPC700 core? Something may have been broken between 1.52 and 1.53. Do you have an integrated...

That's really weird, since Snes9x 1.52, Blaarg's SPC700 audio core has been implemented; the Holy Ball should be faithful to a real Super Famicom. What version of the ROM do you have? Have you tried switching between XAudio, Direct Sound, etc? Changing the buffer size (around 120ms) and the input fr...
