Not sure if you have an old computer or not, but for me on a laptop from 2006, disabling sound sync, helped a ton. The sound doesnt seem off to me either, maybe it is a bit, but I cant tell.

I was playing FF3 for the first time in probably 15yrs or more and wasn't able to get past the intro but figured it out.

I'm on Linux Mint 18. My controller was configured and working just fine, then the only thing I can think of was I went to the menu to "pause" the game, then later on did "run/continue" and it's never worked since. Even rebooting the computer. I can remap the controller in the GU...
