I would delete 9x and reinstall the most recent version. I have had this type of problem when copying and pasting 9x to a different pc..

I understand that controller #2 was meant for one or two player games ONLY and that controllers #3-5 were meant for those games which supported the multi-tap, however I have select setup to close out 9X and wanted a third controller 360 for the extra buttons on games where I need to select 2 players...

Did you try testing or calibrating it in windows by typing joy.cpl in the search box? In the Game Controllers window, select Properties. Select the Settings tab, and then select Calibrate or test. If you want to calibrate it
follow the steps in the Device Calibration Wizard.

I was experiencing a similar problem. When I went to play the player 1 controlled both 1 and 2.. Both pad 1 and 2 config buttons were blue in9X. Blue means the button is already mapped. I think what fixed it was leaving the config buttons blue and ticking the checkbox Allow Left+Rt/Up+Dn My problem ...
