Wireless Xbox 360 controller won't work

Hello,
i use the 1.53 version, and normally played with my keyboard.
Now i bought a wireless xbox 360 controller for the pc, plugged the usb device in, and connected my wireless controller.
It works for other games, but i can't seem to find a solution to the fact, that my snes9x doesnt accept any button when i want to set my controls to a button. it just doesnt react, like im doing nothing.
Now, i first looked up at the gamepad section in the system settings of windows, where i didnt find it either. But: it still works when i play other games.
I use windows vista 64 bit, by the way.
