Snes9x freezes upon creating and loading save states

Snes9x has a tendency to freeze when a save state is updated or loaded, especially when it's done in rapid succession. If this happens, Task Manager would show a very high CPU usage. In one instance, my save state even got corrupted. Snes9x doesn't freeze as much in version 1.53, but it still happens from time to time. I'm using Windows XP SP3, by the way.

Has anyone else encountered this issue?

If you're running Snes9x from a low-latency media such as a flash drive, then there will be some major lag while the Save State is written.
