Secret of Evermore sound issue

Certain sounds in Secret of Evermore don't play correctly. Instead, they are replaced by a long "hiss" sound. Specifically:
- The cursor sound in the name selection menu
- The explosion sound that enemies make when they die
- Some other combat sounds, like getting hit
- Some background noises in the title screen demo
most of the above are "sharp" sounding, like cracks or pings

I played around with the sound settings, but that didn't help. I tried ZSNES and that program doesn't have this problem. ZSNES has other issues, though, so I'm not gonna use it.

I would post my system specs, but I doubt that has anything to do with it. This is a gaming quality computer. I should add that I also had this exact issue in the past, with previous versions of Snes9x, and on my PSP.

Oh, I checked the TAS for this game, and the video didn't have my sound issue, but they did have some of their own (specifically, the enemy death sound is much longer than it should be):

Then again, TASes push the limits of a game, so there are usually sound or graphics issues in just about every game. Oh yeah, I tried the settings listed on the TAS page, but that didn't help.

EDIT: Here's an LP with this issue, try to listen over the guys talking if you can (they're playing a hacked version, but I have this issue with my non-hacked ROM):

Have you tried using the latest build of Snes9x for you platform? http://camoyoshi.x10.mx/mirror/snes9x/

Also, what operating system are you running, and what sound system are you using for Snes9x?

Whoops, the date on the sticky post threw me off. This is a new computer, and I just got Snes9x at the beginning of month, yet somehow I had version 1.51 .

1.53 solved my problems, and then some.

Oh, I remember why I had 1.51 . The "download" section on the front-page didn't work for me, so I just grabbed mine from the most reputable source that popped up from a Google search. All the results from Google showed 1.51, so I figured it was the most recent version.
