You probably have outdated Audio Drivers. Try updating them. Also try updating to DX11 while you're at it, just to be sure.
Could you also please post your system specs (RAM, CPU, OS, GFX Card, Audio Card), and what version of Snes9x you're using as well?

I don't know what you mean by system specs, and like I said in my last post, it's version 1.5.2.0.

OK, first thing to do would be to upgrade to 1.53 and see if you have still have the issue.
Get the latest copy of Snes9x here:
http://camoyoshi.x10.mx/mirror/snes9x
Also, your last post did not mention which version of Snes9x you were using, that's why I asked.
If you're using a prebuilt computer (I'm assuming you are, at this point), could you post the brand and model? Also I'll need to know what Operating System you're running; Windows (if so, which version?), Mac OSX, or Linux (if so, which distro?).

				define won't open the application...
also, to get your system specs, do the following (I'm a little rusty at windows OS'es made since 2006, please forgive me):
1. Click start
2. IIRC there's a box just above the start button, you type dxdiag.exe in it, and if the option comes up in the search, click it (or press enter)
3. if it asks about WHQL digital signatures, click YES
4. then go through dxdiag as follows:
* main tab shows OS, CPU, RAM, pagefile, etc
* video tab shows video card info
* sound tab shows sound card info

				this is what it says:
This application has failed to start because d3dx9_38.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.
I've re-installed it and it didn't work, so I don't know what to do.

Ok, here, download this file and put it in your Snes9x directory.
http://camoyoshi.x10.mx/mirror/snes9x/dlls/d3dx9_38.dll
Also, there is a known issue with Snes9x 1.53 32-bit version to hang when opening the Custom ROM Dialog while a ROM is already running, see this thread here for info & fix:
http://snes9x.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=5007A
Hopefully this helps.

You need to install the newest directx9 runtime as odditude suggested, so follow his link and use the web installer.

				The error message
"This application has failed to start because d3dx9_38.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."
clearly indicates that you do not have the most recent directx9 runtime installed.

I think I typo'd the previous link.
The benefit of just plopping this DLL in the same folder snes9x.exe resides in is that you don't have to install the entire DirectX package, which save a lot of disk space.

OV2, I downloaded the file that you told me to do, but it needs an administrator password to open it, and my dad isn't home that often. what should I do?

you'll need to be patient.
alternatively, he can use rdp to do it remotely, if you're running pro or ultimate. (vnc etc aren't possible because admin privileges are necessary to install the client.)
