Super Mario rpg iOS "please unplug multiplayer adaptor&

When I attempt to play super Mario rpg on my iPhone it displays a message in game to remove the multi-player adaptor. Is there any settings that I can change to fix this?

Turn off Multitap support in the options and reset the game, it should start up normally.
