Virtual controller on kindle fire tablet

I've just bought a cheap kindle fire tablet
Loaded snes9x
It's running Zelda a link to the past fine with sound and video
But there's no virtual controller overlaid and I've no idea where to start to find it and could t find anything in the foums so far about this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
