Backgrounds not displaying properly on Yoshi's Island

Hi,

I am trying to use SNES9x v1.53 for Windows to play Yoshi's Island, but for some reason, the backgrounds are not appearing. Instead it is just black. Please see the attached screenshot. I tried a different version of the rom and messing with the video settings, but I cannot seem to get it to work properly. Can anyone help?

I actually figured it out! Under the video menu, I went under Display Configuration and on the right, there was a tickbox that said "transparency effects". It seems that checking that box fixed the problem for me.
