Snes9x ex+ Android + USB Gamepad Issues

Running android version of Snes9x, have generic retrolink usb gamepad. Plug it in and it gets auto-detected for mapping. All keys will map X, Y, L1, R1, they just don't work at all. If I turn on debugging output mode, it detects the key presses but never actually maps them. Gamepad works as I've used it on my retropie. Any ideas?
