Reconnect controller?

So whenever my controller becomes disconnected and then I reconnect it, SNES9X doesn't recognize it. (I know people aren't commonly plugging and unplugging controllers while playing, but I usually play SNES9X on a Windows tablet with only one USB port that's kinda wonky). If I save state, quit out of SNES9X, and restart it, it works fine, but it's a hassle having to do this like every 15-20 minutes. Is there a quicker and easier way to get SNES9X to re-recognize the controller?

I'm thinking this is either a Windows thing, or an API thing, because it happens with a lot of other emulators as well. The only solution I know of is to use the keyboard to save a state, close the emulator then re-open it and load the state.
