Snes9x Final Fantasy iii/6 Character Glitch

I was in the middle of a FF6 battle last night when suddenly all of my characters changed. Their spells / fights were the same as before, but the character displays were wrong. After winning the battle, my character was walking around in different clothing. Also, when I enter towns or caves, the character displayed isn't correct. Finally, the game has started freezing which it never did before the character glitches began. Any advice?
