Multiple USB controllers will not respond on MAC

I have purchased 3 different USB Snes controllers. Each time I have tried to use the controllers to play SNES games on my Macbook Pro (OS X Yosemite), the buttons will not respond.

So far I have tried switching between each input device: (pad, mouse (port 1), mouse (port 2), Super Scope, Multi Tap, Multi Taps (both ports), Justifier, Justifier (two players) )

I have switched between the 5 controller presets as well.

The keyboard plays just fine.

There is a possibility I may not have used every combination of the input device and controller preset.

Thoughts?
