Problem with Megaman X: Cant charge up shots

So i'm having this problem with megaman x where I can't charge up shots with my power-ups. I can however charge up my shots with my x.buster but not my powerup moves such as shotgun ice or electric sparks. Im using a mac too if that makes a difference. Help please! No turbo is not on either.

really? complaining about no responses after 25 minutes? i'm guessing you don't have a day job.

as for your problem, you can't charge special weapons until you have the upgraded buster.

and there are two ways to get it:

* in the Flame Mammoth stage, using the brick breaking helmet you get from the Storm Eagle stage, there's a hard to reach room somewhere near conveyors. It takes some fancy finessing but it's there.
* and near the end when you fight Vile, Zero gets pwned and gives X the upgrade.
