Is there some way to put the games I'm playing in slow motion? And if so, how do I do it?

Use - and = to slow down and speed up the emulator.

What operating system are you using? 32 or 64bit? Version of Snes9x? Is the text at the bottom of the window white when you load the game?
These suggestions are usually the solution to your issue!

I tried that, it tells me the turbo rate but it doesn't seem to do anything.

It seems like it's a problem we've been having all the Mac port lately... Can't really help you further with this.

I'm not an expert on the mac port, but I'd say you'll have to disable sound sync to get speedups to work.
