SNES9X 1.51 problems on Vista

Post by hawkthief »

I am using a Dell Inspiron Laptop with a 2.00 GHZ processor, 3GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, and an Intel Graphics Card, and a IDT High Definition Audio CODEC (I think that is the sound card.. if not please tell me WHAT it is). I am playing SD3 on it and the sound is awful. Attacking, and moving the menu command sound like chirping and crackling.. I tried changing the Buffer, but it didn't work. I tried FMOD, but there was no sound.. On 1.39 the sound is perfect.

Please tell me if there is a way to get the sound working.. Thanks.

thanks, but how would I be able to do that?

I tried copying/pasting to the folder where the Snes9X application is located, but the SD3 sound was still off (when you start the game the little hand pointer sounds like a crackle), but in A Link to the Past, the sound is perfect.. FMOD didn't work either..

Tried it, and the sound is perfect on A Link to the Past, but I still get the crackle-sounding pointer in SD3..

I don't mean to be annoying but I don't know why it does that.
It works perfectly in 1.39 and 1.41..

I even installed DirectX and checked my sound card...

Is your ROM's checksum good? Have you enabled Interpolation in the sound options? Have you enabled 16-bit sound in the sound options?

What operating system are you using? 32 or 64bit? Version of Snes9x? Is the text at the bottom of the window white when you load the game?

yes to all.. I'm playing the original Japanese ROM.

it sounds like this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Rb91C232Sg (listen to the techs and attacks)

I don't know why.. I am just going back to 1.39 which had perfect sound (but it freezes up sometimes) or I will just have to put up with the crappy sound..

Try disabling interpolation and 16-bit sound, some sound cards don't like them.

Have you tried updating your sound card's drivers? Also try tweaking the Buffer Length and Playback Rate until it sounds good.

You have to use the FMOD Directsound option, not FMOD A3D option.

I presume it's FMOD Default now, but that's probably not a given .
